Muir Woods is one of the last remaining stands of old-growth coastal redwood forest, sustained by temperate marine fog. You'll see redwoods that are over 800 years old, having grown from tiny seeds to heights of up to 258 feet (79 m).

Pre-recorded Commentary

Our San Francisco bus tours feature pre-recorded commentary which offers fascinating insights into the city's history, culture, architecture and landmarks. The commentary is available in the following languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. Commentary can be accessed via complimentary headphones, distributed when you board the bus. Simply plug them in to the audio transmitter on the seatback and select your preferred language channel. You are also welcome to listen to commentary via your own wired headphones.

Muir Woods Need-to-Know

Important information about our tour.

The Muir Woods Tours depart from the Big Bus Tours Visitor Center at 99 Jefferson Street at 8:30am and 1:30pm. Tours take aproximately 4.5 hours. The 45-minute journey to Muir Woods takes you across the Golden Gate Bridge, and up into the Marin County headlands. On arrival at Muir Woods, you'll be given your admission ticket and free range to explore the gentle walking trails for 1.5 hours. The return journey includes a tour through the seaside town of Sausalito. Time and date of tour can be selected via the calendar when purchasing. This tour is led by a qualified guide who will give you an insight into the area’s history and must-see locations. You can join the Chinatown Walk from Stop 2 (North Beach / Chinatown). Tour departs daily at 1:00pm . The Walking Tour duration is approximately 1 hour.

Explore a charming seaside town.

On the way back from Muir Woods, you'll enjoy a 45-minute visit to the mediterranean-style seaside town of Sausalito. Hop off to visit a wide selection of distinctive boutiques, restaurants, parks, cafes, and unique art galleries. You can choose to end the tour here, explore Sausalito independently and catch the ferry back to the city later, or you can hop back on the bus after 45 minutes to return back across the Golden Gate bridge to designated drop off points within San Francisco.
