The history

Founded in 1951, the Wiener Festwochen Vienna was a way for the city to show the world that it won’t be beaten by war. A “demonstration of Austria’s will to survive”, Vienna put on an international event of cultural activities with a vision to promote life, openness and the idea of a future. An affair to put the city firmly back on the map and to encourage reintegration. Today, it’s an event that draws crowds from around the globe and artists of all statures.
