About the Museum of the Bible

Opening in November 2017, The Museum of the Bible is one of Washington, D.C.'s newest museums, documenting the symbolism, legacy and impact of one of the world's most famous books: the Bible. The museum has one of the largest assemblies of biblical artifacts and texts in the world, with a permanent collection of over 1,150 artifacts, and a further 2,000+ on special exhibition from donors, private institutions, and other museums. As stated by the museum's president, Cary Summers, the goal of the Museum of the Bible is to "reacquaint the world with the book that helped make it, and let the visitor come to their own conclusions. ... We don't exist to tell people what to believe about it".

Unique Artifacts

The Museum of the Bible is home to an amazing variety of treasures. See artifacts and objects from a range of cultures and time periods, from the Ancient Near East to the modern period. The permanent collection focuses on biblical items, manuscripts, printed Bibles and books, and art. Must-see artifacts include fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the original manuscript for the famous song "The Battle Hymn of the Republic", a replica of the Liberty Bell upon which is engraved the Bible verse from Leviticus "Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof", and the rooftop Biblical garden.
