The Met

The Met Fifth Avenue presents over 5,000 years of art that represents a myriad of cultures and time periods. Make your way up the museum's iconic steps to sample pieces from 1st century Roman portraiture to 16th century Nigerian sculpture, and see treasures from ancient Egypt, the Impressionists and more. With over two million square feet of display space, the Met is one of the world's largest art galleries, showcasing over two million pieces. There's art for everyone here, with permanent collections covering classical antiquity and ancient Egypt, paintings and sculptures from nearly all the European masters, and large collections of American and modern art.

Iconic Artists

Picasso, Pollock, Monet, Manet, Degas, Vermeer, Rembrandt, Goya, Cassatt, Van Gogh, Matisse, Modigliani, and more. The Met displays numerous treasures from these iconic artists, and dedicates entire galleries to the artistic movements they were a part of.

Treasures of the World

The Met is home to some of the world's most precious ancient antiquities. See treasures like William, the faience hippopotamus from 1900 BC ancient Egypt, along with other items from Asia, Africa, the Islamic world, Oceania, Greece and Rome.

Romantic Roof Garden

Don't miss the chance to take in the spectacular views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline from the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. The garden also features a cafe and bar for refreshments.

Mixed Mediums

In addition to paintings, sculptures and photography, the Met also exhibits collections of musical instruments, costumes and accessories, antique weapons and armor from around the world.
