SZIGET - BUDAPEST
Sziget is one of the largest festivals in Europe, held every August in Hungary’s capital city, Budapest. This epic event takes place on Obuda Island in the middle of the Danube River, and features over 1,000 acts and entertainers, plus a themed party on the main stage every night. The acts are from loads of different music genres, including rock, blues, jazz, and pop, so there’s something for every partygoer. And former headliners have included Snoop Dogg, Blur, Rihanna and Sia, so you’re guaranteed a show to remember.
ELECTRIC DAISY CARNIVAL – LAS VEGAS
EDM fans will love Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival which usually takes place in May every year. The colourful three-day party features some of the best staging, pyrotechnics and costumes you’ll ever see, so it’s as much about the visuals as it is the music. Both huge and up-and-coming electronic dance producers and DJs perform at the festival, with Tiesto, Armin van Buuren and Calvin Harris being regular performers. And, there are carnival rides, pool parties, art installations and yoga classes to keep you busy too.
LOLLAPALOOZA - CHICAGO
Chicago’s four-day summer festival takes place in Grant Park near some of the city’s best attractions. So you can do your sightseeing and get your festival fix in one trip. It’s been going since 1991, and features a mix of music genres including alternative rock, punk rock, heavy metal, pop and hip hop. The diverse line-up of previous performers includes Kanye West, J’Lo, Nine Inch Nails and Bjork – so there’s something for every music lover. The festival is also famous for its food offerings. Head to ‘Chow Town’ and you can tuck into fresh restaurant fare and delicious eats from all over the city.
LOVEBOX – LONDON
The best thing about going to a festival in London is, you don’t need to camp. Leave the wellies and soggy tents behind and rave at city centre parties which are easily accessible by tube. Lovebox festival is one of the best in London. The event might only be a two-dayer, but it packs in a lot – DJ sets, big name bands, roller discos and loads of unique activities and entertainers. The music genres covered include grime, hip hop, house and techno, and past headliners have included Frank Ocean, Chase & Status and Solange.
COACHELLA – CALIFORNIA
The USA’s most famous festival is held in the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California, which is around 2 hours from Los Angeles. It takes place in April every year, to mark the start of festival season, and lines up huge headlining acts like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Drake. It’s as much about the music as it is about the fashion here – with body glitter, floral headbands and fringe jackets a must. And, it happens to be a top A-lister’s hangout too, so you might find yourself bumping into festival regulars Katy Perry, the Kardashians, and Justin Bieber.
ULTRA FESTIVAL - MIAMI
Named after the 1997 Depeche Mode album, Ultra, Ultra Music Festival is an annual outdoor electronic music festival that takes place every March in Miami. The festival was founded in 1999 by Russell Faibisch and Alex Omes, and is held in Downtown Miami at Bayfront Park. Previous line-ups have included Diplo, Deadmau5, Major Lazer and Afrojack and there’s truly something for everyone at this three-day EDM concert.
