Kensington Gardens

Originally a part of Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens is the idyllic setting for Kensington Palace, the birthplace of Queen Victoria. Although not easy to differentiate between Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, they are two separate areas. The Italian gardens and the Albert memorial, both instigated by Queen Victoria, are just two of the attractions which Kensington Gardens have to offer. One of the most popular features is the bronze statue depicting Peter Pan which is to be found along the west bank of the Long Water, the artificially created lake in the gardens. The statue’s location was chosen by the author of the Peter Pan books, J.M Barrie, who was inspired to write his stories while strolling through the gardens. The statue shows Peter Pan standing on top of a broken down tree stump, surrounded by squirrels, mice and other woodland creatures, both real and fictitious.
